United Health One announced last week that health insurance rates in some areas of Northern Virginia will be decreasing by up to 13% in addition to an earlier decrease of approximately 10% earlier this year.  The company is a subsidiary of United Healthcare / Golden Rule and the single largest health insurance company in the country.  Rates for most demographics are now the lowest in the area and you may want to consider revisiting your coverage options if you have recently changed plans or are in the process of looking for quotes.  These changes are effective for policies with effective dates on or after July 1, 2011.

The company features a decreasing deductible benefit that other companies do not offer – if you do not reach your policy’s deductible in a given year, the following year’s deductible will decrease by 20% of the original deductible amount, up to a maximum of a 50% reduction after three years.  Some restrictions may apply.

The zip codes where rates were lowered are those that begin with 201, 220, 221, 222, and 223.  These areas comprise cities such as Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Springfield, Vienna, Falls Church, Centreville, Herndon, Reston, Ashburn, Sterling, Centreville, Manassas, Haymarket, Gainesville, Bristow, and more.
