Assurant Health announced on April 28th that they will either sell their company or exit the health insurance marketplace and close its doors. Â The carrier indicated they will shift their focus to their lifestyle and housing protection products – spots where they are in market-leading positions.
If Assurant is unable to sell it’s health insurance business, the carrier will leave the market in 2016. Â The changes can affect their nearly 1 million health insurance customers that include individuals, families, small business employers.
Product lines under Assurant Health include Time Insurance and John Alden Health Plans for major medical plans, short-term health plans, and supplemental benefit plans.

Assurant Health will continue to operate and service their existing customer base through the 2015 year. Â During the next open enrollment period (November 1, 2015 – January 31, 2016), you can enroll in a health plan with another carrier.
