Several conditions must be met in order to qualify for a subsidy (also known as “premium tax credits”):
1) You must live in the United States
2) You must be a citizen of the United States or be lawfully present in the country
3) Your total household income must be between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level
4) You cannot be currently incarcerated
If you meet these requirements, you may be eligible to receive a subsidy to reduce the cost of your health insurance premiums. Subsidies are set on a sliding scale so that your monthly premiums are limited to a specified percentage of your income, and to the second least-expensive silver plan in your area.
