Under the new Federal guidelines, created by the Affordable Care Act, individuals will have an open enrollment period each year. During the first year, a six-month open enrollment period was created that began October 1, 2013 and ended March 31, 2014.
Beginning in 2015, the open enrollment period is proposed to be November 15, 2014 to January 15, 2015. However, the 2015 open enrollment dates have not been finalized and may change before then.
Each state and insurance company may also have other open enrollment periods available at different times of the year.
